She has an M.A. in social and cultural anthropology and has 15 years of experience as a public policy and research analyst for the Government of Canada. Thank you for this important presentation and the work that you are doing both legislatively and in the public sector to address this very important issue. There may be multiple reasons why babies die in the uterus however there are numerous fallacies that run rampant and are popularized by both families and professionals.. You mentioned that people are told that it is normal for children to slow down as they progress in pregnancy and even if there were some semblance of truth to that, by negating the importance of importance of fetal well-being in children whose mothers note a decrease in activity, we lose a very powerful tool that is both inexpensive and important.

One of the problems that I have noticed is that families and even care providers don't want women to be overly anxious and I can understand that however by decreasing the importance of reporting decrease fetal activity, we lose an important parameter. It will increase fetal well-being testing however the results may increase our awareness of fetal jeopardy or be very reassuring to the mother and care provider alike.

Keep up the good work and the inclusion of fetal activity in care bundles plus advocates like you hopefully will make a difference.

Thank you Ronald. I have noticed the same thing as you, i.e. doctors and everyone else not wanting to stress new mothers. Yet loosing a child unnecessarily is worse and any subsequent pregnancy after that will be stressful. I think women instead will feel empowered by monitoring their baby's movements.

I agree Nadine. I lost my newborn at 18 hours old to GBS and I wish my doctors would have educated me more and stressed the importance of GBS signs/symptoms. Being educated is empowering. Thank you so much for all of the amazing work you are doing in honor of Judith and all the babies.

Nadine,

Your story has done more than inspire, your actions are bringing about change that will impact countless moms and babies! Wow!

"If we'd known"... such painful words. I am so sorry for the loss of Judith. You are redeeming that loss by helping others to know and that is her legacy now. (Just as Marti has done). Awe inspiring!

Wish I could hug you. Keep up the awesome work! Thank you for speaking to us!

Thanks . Your words and story are as inspiring as they are affecting. Thank you esp for providing your succinct hand out. Please consider making an annotated accessible source of enabling references and sources for patients, families, payors, and all kinds of providers. You also need a summary “white paper” summarizing 1)kick counting, 2) back sleeping,3) benefits of preconception care4) the benefits of proven approaches ( Scotland,Australia, N Z , others) ,4)a legal update and a reliable source of your voice and pics. Thanks again!
