Such interesting research and findings about how GBS colonization rates changed! Thank you for presenting these highlights, Dr. Costa!

Thank you, Dr. Costa, for your talk! Do you know if other countries have had similar findings about GBS colonization before and during the pandemic?

Thank you very much, Marti! There are some studies comparing bacterial infections, including GBS, before and during COVID-19 pandemic. However, to my knowledge, there are no other studies analyzing GBS colonization in different periods considering pandemic. Yet, would be very interesting to know if or how pandemic may have changed GBS dynamics worldwide.

Do women in Brazil have access to purchasing a GBS test, if so where would they purchase & how is the word spread about the importance of self testing?

Thank you for your question. There is no self-screening of GBS in Brazil, thus pregnant women are screened by healthcare workers. Unfortunately, there is no national policy for GBS screening in our country so GBS is often neglected during antenatal care. Thereby, the relevance of routine detection of GBS among pregnant women should be emphasized and awareness of GBS infections should be promoted not only among healthcare workers but also among lay public/people. Therefore, actions and events such as GBS Community Days are essential and help us to spread the word about GBS diseases.

Very interesting work. It hits home because I lost a baby to GBS in 2015, have had 4 more successful pregnancies following, but always had GBS until my last pregnancy in 2021 I was GBS -. I thought that was strange because nothing in my lifestyle had changed, but I did not relate it to the pandemic. Thank you for the vital work you are doing to save lives!

Yeah, definitely COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted leading to these changes in GBS colonization. Thank you for your comment and for sharing your story with us, Ashley.
