Thank you for visiting the community perspectives portion of our symposium! Our past online symposium focusing on prenatal-onset group B strep disease has additional content relevant to preventing prenatal infection. Those presentations are at https://www.groupbstrepinternational.org/welcome.html and are also available for CME credit.
This information is so vital. Are all women told about this at their prenatal visits?
Unfortunately usually not to my knowledge. The prevailing thought is that GBS only infects babies during labor and delivery and parents are often told that GBS is no big deal. Many parents don't realize that GBS can also infect babies up to several months of age (even from sources other than the mother) and often don't recognize the signs and symptoms to get immediate medical treatment.
