I was pregnant for the second time, my first pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage… I was so excited to finally be getting my rainbow baby! At 37 weeks I tested negative for GBS. At 39 weeks 5days my blood was high and we decided to induce labor. After laboring 28hrs with my water broken for 11 hours my sweet Milo was born at 8:50 pm! He was absolutely perfect. The following afternoon my son developed a slight grunt & was very tired. His nursery nurse took him to be evaluated and at 20hrs old my son was given a spinal tap and was confirmed to have GBS meningitis. I was so confused how this could happen because I tested negative during my pregnancy. I was told GBS is a bacteria that can be transient… negative one day …. positive the next. I was shocked. After 33 days of antibiotic treatment, 5 spinal taps, 4 MRIs and 1 EEG we were discharged!!
My son is currently beating the odds & doing amazingly. He is still on seizure medication and follows up with neurology and will be starting preventative therapies to give him the best life possible. My GBS survivor is my hero… I’m grateful every day I get to have him home with me!
