I was never told about GBS in pregnancy and when my son didn't meet criteria for his movements at 38 weeks I was induced.
After he was born he had lowered blood sugars and the doctors decided to take him for tests. I felt really alone as this was 3am during lockdown so my partner wasn't with me and I had no idea what was happening.
It was discovered that he had GBS, Pneumonia & Sepsis. No one really explained to me what was happening so I began looking online to find out what everything was which was terrifying.
We had to spend two weeks in the NICU with Jenson fighting to get better having antibiotics. Luckily for us he did get better and has made a full recovery.
GBS should be explained to every pregnant woman, and I hope that one day it is routine for women in the UK to be tested to help prevent this awful infection.
