September is Sepsis Awareness Month! Sepsis is a medical emergency, and must be treated rapidly to reduce the risk of death. According to the World Health Organization, GBS was first recognized as a cause of puerperal sepsis in 1938. Since then, GBS has emerged as a leading cause of neonatal sepsis globally and is also recognized as a cause of maternal sepsis.

July is International GBS Awareness Month!

 This year's theme is #2020Foresight.
Consider donating or planning a fundraiser from your home to support GBS awareness!
While hindsight is 2020, imagine the difference that could be made if foresight was 2020, as well. Awareness is the key to making that happen.

We consistently hear that parents were not aware of GBS until their baby was harmed. They were blindsided and had to scramble to learn about GBS. If parents have awareness of GBS from the beginning, better pregnancy outcomes may be possible. We want people to come together to spread awareness so instead of thinking back on "what could've been," they can visualize "what can be." To do this we want to encourage GBS testing and awareness of the signs of infection! Awareness is the first step towards prevention! #2020Foresight

Elsie was far from the first, and I know she’ll be far from the last baby to die because the UK government simply isn’t listening.”

Many types of infections can be prevented with healthy pregnancy behaviors. Use the word “HYGIENE” to make these behaviors routine!

Handwashing helps ~ wash your hands thoroughly after feeding a young child

Yes to prenatal care ~ see your provider right away if you have any vaginitis symptoms

Good food prepared safely ~ avoid soft cheeses if made with unpasteurized milk

Immunizations ~ make sure you get recommended flu shots

Evade others’ bodily fluids – don’t share food and drinks with young children

No to unnecessary invasive procedures ~ membrane stripping can move germs closer to your baby

Environmental precautions ~ walk in the middle of trails to help avoid ticks

Please click here for our downloadable “HYGIENE” poster and other resources and use #ProtectYourUnbornBaby to show your support!

Fun for children! Teach your children how to set the table (washing their hands first to prevent the spread of germs!) with a downloadable placemat for them to color. CMV and GBS prevention info is on the back for parents and caregivers!
