Cailyn was our first baby and it was a very normal pregnancy. I tested negative for GBS at 36 weeks. At 39 weeks we decided to induce labor. They broke my water at 7am and contractions started after that. I wasn't fully dilated until 10pm that night. During my labor I developed a high fever and was given antibiotics around 7pm. There was no sign of distress from her. Her heart rate was normal until my last few pushes. The doctor said to my husband, " Dad, are you ready to cut the umbilical...wait". That's when we knew there was a problem. After 5 minutes of working on her in the room, they took her out. We knew we had lost her.
We did get a chance to hold her and tell her how much she is loved, and for that I am grateful. Eighteen months later, we welcomed our daughter, Calleigh, into the world via c-section. I had 4 hours of antibiotics prior to surgery to minimize any risk of infection. Cailyn is such a big part of our family (Calleigh has Cailyn in her prayers every night), and we miss her very much each and every day. Attached is her symbol...a heart that was on her take home outfit.
We are very excited to have found this website. Since Cailyn died in 2008, we have struggled to find a place where we could talk with others that have been through our pain. We are excited to help raise awareness of GBS...thank you for this opportunity.
