Mother's GBS Status: Urine tested positive
Gestational Age: 10 weeks
Age harmed: 10 weeks
I'm a mum of three. All had GBS in previous pregnancies but had never heard of GBS in urine. Unfortunately on the week commencing 6th June 2017 I got unwell and was 10weeks  pregnant at the time I had taken myself to the GP who had put me on 3 day course of antibiotics and sent my urine off. On the Monday of the following week I had the hospital call to say they had detected GBS in urine and said I should have a scan asap and ring my GP to let him know the result. He assured me that the hospital was worrying me over nothing, that I was on the right medication and that nothing else would happen but I followed my heart and went to hospital the following day when sadly I had lost my baby.

I underwent surgery the following day and then stayed in hospital a further few days as the infection has spread to my liver & kidneys. The most dreaded words are hearing the midwife say your babies heartbeat has stopped.  I believe people and healthcare providers themselves need a lot more educating on GBS and GBS in urine before telling their patients they will be fine, etc.
