I became pregnant with Ava Marlene "Marlee" 6 months after having a miscarriage so I was STOKED upon finding out I was pregnant again! I had the usual morning sickness, tiredness, etc. and my pregnancy was normal and Ava was healthy!
During the Thanksgiving weekend I noticed a thicker than usual mucous-like discharge but no cramping so I figured everything was normal. The next morning (Monday) I contacted my midwife and explained everything and she saw me the next day (Tuesday). However this visit was different. When she went to examine me she could see my cervix was dilated and Ava's foot was visible!
The ambulance arrived to transport me to the hospital and that is when my water broke! I instantly knew that things wouldn't get any better from here...I delivered Ava at 3:14 am Wednesday without a heartbeat. Test were ordered and I had a high white blood count (sign of infection) accompanied by a fever. I was given antibiotics during the labor and delivery and after.
My life has forever been changed from heartache and unanswered questions about GBS. I was never tested (because I wasn't far along enough) and I didn't test positive for it in previous pregnancies. I pray that no other families have to go thru what we went thru!
