I have twins who both had GBS sepsis. We live in the US and when tested, I was found to be GBS positive. My water broke at home at 35.1 weeks gestation. We went straight to the hospital and my boys were delivered via c-section. I did receive one dose of antibiotics but it was an hour or less before the c-section. Baby B, Owen, was diagnosed with late-onset GBS sepsis at around a week of age. He was still in the NICU working on feeding at the time.
Baby A, Andrew, was diagnosed with late-onset GBS sepsis and GBS meningitis a couple of days after his brother. He was at home at the time. The assault from the GBS meningitis caused several small strokes and scar tissue development which in turn caused aquaductal stenosis and hydrocephalus. He had brain surgery for the hydrocephalus at 6 months old and deals with orthopedic issues that were most likely caused by the strokes.
They have both overcome many delays and obstacles but are thriving, energetic 4-year olds now.
