Alabama GBS Awareness Campaign
Campaign Goals:
Promote awareness and prevention of group B strep disease in babies throughout the State of Alabama by:
- Providing materials to help providers educate pregnant women and new mothers as to how to help protect their babies from GBS disease.
- Making resources readily available for providers to learn more about GBS prevention.

Patient Resources
Starting mid-June, Bevin Tomlin, Co-founder and Executive Director of Leah’s Legacy Foundation and Southeast Regional Coordinator for Group B Strep International, will ship you:

Ideally both of these materials should be given to patients at their second prenatal visit when they receive the results of their urine culture for GBS and other bacteria (customarily done at the first prenatal visit.)
Status cards should be filled out by the provider/staff and given to the patient to keep in their purse/wallet in the event that the hospital does not have their GBS status available upon check-in for labor/delivery. (If the patient’s urine tested positive, the second and third paragraphs under “How do I know if I carry GBS?” in the brochure give further explanation.)
Electronic versions of tear sheets for both GBS positive and GBS negative women will be emailed to you (and are available as downloads below) for doctors to print and give to patients when they are given the result of their standard 35th to 37th week GBS test.

Note: Please ask the doctors to supply existing and new patients past their 2nd visit with both the brochure and status card and give them the appropriate tear sheet once the results of the standard 35th to 37th week GBS test results are available.
