My water broke at 20 weeks. I had no cramps or any symptoms of labor except that I felt that I pee'd on myself. I was hospitalized for 6 days. Every couple of hours they would come in and do my vital signs, and hear the baby's heartbeat. After 3 days of being in the hospital, they did an ultrasound and said that all of my amniotic fluid was gone. The doctor said that there was a 50/50 chance. I knew that without amniotic fluid that the chances weren't good. I knew that the amniotic fluid was for producing the digestive system and lungs. After 6 days, they sent me home because of the insurance that I had.
The night that I went home, I started cramping. They weren't very painful and so I didn't think that they were pregnancy pains. I then called my doctor and he said that, if the condition worsened, to come in. That was at 3 in the morning. At 7 I began to have the same pains but more intense. I thought maybe I had to use the bathroom and so I tried to go, that is when she started to come out. My mom rushed me to the emergency room and within 1 hour she was born. This is my 2nd pre-term birth. They finally found out that I had an incompetent cervix and that with surgery, I could carry a baby. I hope that no one ever has to bury a child.
