I was GBS+ while pregnant with my son. I was given 2 rounds of IV antibiotics during labor. After delivery both my son and I had low grade fevers, but they broke soon after and we were discharged 2 days later.
When my son was 6 weeks old, he spiked a fever of 104* and he had a terrible shrill-like cry. We took him to the ER where they did a blood culture and a spinal tap. We were admitted and told the next day that while his spinal fluid was clear of infection his blood culture was showing growth and he was suffering from septicemia. Had we not reacted quickly that night his diagnosis could have been much more grim.
After a 10 day stay in the PICU we were discharged and today we have a healthy 2 year old.
